THIS MONTH OUR SUBJECT is the liver. Let's take a few minutes to learn about this remarkable organ.

Your liver has many roles and is thought to be responsible for up to 500 separate functions, working hand in hand (so to speak) with our other systems and organs. It supports almost every organ in the body and is vital for our survival.

This organ is a storage warehouse. It stores many substances, including glucose, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, and copper, to name a few.

The liver makes up a part of our immune system along with the spleen and the lymphatic system. This system acts as a filter for our circulatory system.

This vital part of your anatomy is key to healthy detoxification and elimination of metabolic wastes, drug residues, and environmental toxins. It breaks down or modifies toxic substances and then they are excreted.

Because of its many functions, your liver is also prone to many diseases. The most common include infections such as hepatitis, HIV, alcohol damage, fatty liver, cirrhosis, cancer and drug damage (especially acetaminophen and cancer drugs).

An old naturopathic saying is that “when in doubt, treat the liver.” This is so true. Because the liver is involved in so many processes, most people will benefit from a liver support program.

We carry many different liver support products. Ask me which one is right for you.

Come in during the month of June and mention this blog at the time of purchase. You will receive a 10% discount on any liver support function related supplement.

Overall Health Begins With Strong Foundations

Overall health and wellness is tied to every aspect of body function.

Without good habits, your body's structure begins to break down. And without a good structure, the rest of your body begins to rebel...you'll feel tired all of the time, suffer chronic pain, or find that you just can't think or function as efficiently as you used to.

Just as poor oral health affects your overall condition, bad skeletal structure or nutrition also affects wellbeing.

Back and neck pain may cause a loss of sleep, pinched nerves impede circulation, and frequent migraines from Anterior Head Syndrome and other conditions cause stress and leave you exhausted. What else can they cause? Check out this partial list of Back and Neck Pain Secondary Conditions.

Eating foods that just aren't good for you challenge your digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems. Letting your waistline expand too much puts strain on your neck and spine -- damaging the very foundation of your body -- which leads back to all of those secondary symptoms we mentioned.

So what do you do? Eat properly, work ergonomically and exercise, of course!

And if you're lacking the motivation, start with the little things. I can give you some tips on jumpstarting your healthier lifestyle, address any spine or neck problems to get the rest of you back to working more efficiently, and help you with insomnia, allergies, vitamin deficiency and more.

We offer free consultations. Improve your overall health and wellness starting today:  818.954.0884.

Insomnia Problems? How a New Sleep Aid Has Been Helping Me

For many years I've had trouble sleeping. I didn’t want to take “over the counter” sleeping aids or prescription drugs due to possible side effects and the addiction factor.

Since I’ve been involved in nutritional supplements, I have been searching for an effective and non-narcotic sleeping supplement from many different nutritional companies and spending hundreds of dollars in the process.

Unfortunately none of them worked well for me, until I met the representative from Biogenesis. Initially she came to my office to share information regarding Biogenesis' protein shakes. I really liked their shakes a lot, so I asked about sleeping products as well. She recommended one in particular, which I tried, but it didn't work.

Then she recommended another product call "Kavinace" from Neuroscience. I was skeptical given my past history with sleeping aids but thought I might as well try it.

I purchased the product and surprisingly, slept for 8 consecutive hours. I couldn't believe it. This product actually works; I have continued taking it and now sleep great with no side effects.

I began telling a select number of my patients who suffer from sleeping disorders. The results were remarkable…10 out of 10 patients experienced better sleep for longer periods of time. No one could believe how well this product works.

Kavinace - How this Sleep Aid Works

One of the ingredients in Kavinace by NeuroScience is Phenibut (4-amino-3-phenylbutyric acid), a GABA derivative that easily crosses the blood/brain barrier, binds to GABA receptors, and helps increase GABA levels. Phenibut also helps inhibit the excitatory neurotransmitter henylethylamine, while providing anti-convulsant, anti-arrhythmic, and anti-aggression effects.

Kavinace also contains Taurine, which serves as an osmoregulator and neuromodulator while providing neuron protection from hypoxia, free radicals, excess ammonia, and excitotoxicity. Taurine may also provide support for increasing GABA levels by preventing GABA breakdown and re-uptake. Kavinaces Phenubit/ Taurine combination may enhance binding of
benzodiazepine to GABA receptor. Vitamin B6 is included as an important cofactor for the synthesis of GABA.

Always consult your doctor before taking any supplement. See me if you have any questions.

Dear All:

Sorry it's been a while since I've posted anything here, but have been busy building a new website and integrating it with Facebook, Twitter and our blogs.

The end result is updated information on chiropractic care and overall health – a forum for keeping you better informed on achieving wellness and maintaining your wellbeing.

In my practice, I find that many of my new patients have similar complaints:

1. Pain returns after a night of sleep.

2. It only hurts when I sit or stand.

3. I feel good for 2-3 days after treatment, but then the discomfort or pain returns.

This is common for patients who are new to the healing process, and don't understand how everyday habits will create problems or hinder the treatment process.

I started observing patients while they were in the waiting room. Many of them are sitting incorrectly and no matter how many times I suggest improvements; they are still slouching in the chairs.

They don’t get the connection between poor posture and pain. This is why I decided to create instructional videos to help. They will show you how to eliminate bad habits to accelerate the healing process. The first instructional video will guide you on setting up your desks at work and home.

If you have concerns or health problems please let me know so I can recommend better sitting and working habits. If many of you have similar problems, it’s possible I can create a video to address a particular issue.

Meanwhile, I will give you solutions to problems you may be suffering from along the way. So stay tuned for videos, informative topics, seminars and other tools to keep you feeling better and better.

Take care and stay healthy,

Dr. Sadanaga

A Burbank Chiropractor's Advice: Head, Neck & Back Pain are Symptoms of a Larger Problem

If you’re reading my blog you’re probably experiencing (or have experienced in the past) discomfort of some sort: headaches, back pain, stiff neck or shoulder pain and numbness. These are all symptoms of many things that could be happening in your body, and are usually secondary symptoms of the bigger, problematic picture.

Usually when my patients come in to see me, I discover that the bigger picture is something called Anterior Head Syndrome, or AHS. This is a structural problem in the vertebrae of the neck and spine—the bones shift out of place causing pressure on muscle groups, nerves and blood vessels.

You might experience any one or more of these symptoms if you have AHS:

  • Numbness and Tingling Sensations
  • Shooting or Radiating Pains
  • Sciatica Pain
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Pinched Nerve
  • Poor Posture or Granny Hump
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Dizziness or Vertigo
  • Hip Pain
  • Headaches or Migraines
  • Herniated Disc
  • Canal Stenosis
  • Degenerative Joint and Disc Diseases
  • Muscular Imbalance

So what happens if you do have these symptoms? Chances are, you’ve already seen a physician, who may or may not have been able to help. (Remember Anterior Head Syndrome is not ALWAYS the root cause of these issues.) Or, maybe you’ve been consuming quantities of over-the-counter pain medications and applying heat or ice for temporary relief. But these tactics do not provide solutions, as they only mask your symptoms for short periods.

What you really should do at this point, is consider chiropractic care.

When a patient comes to see me with any of the above symptoms, I perform a preliminary, visual inspection, and ask questions to evaluate the level and frequency of pain or numbness. I’ll take X-rays and then recommend a course of corrective treatment. Depending on the severity of your Anterior Head Syndrome, you’ll need to come in for regular adjustments 1-3 times per week initially. Each case varies, so it will be difficult to judge how long you’ll need treatment until we go over your X-rays and see how well your body reacts to the adjustments.

It all also depends on your lifestyle and work habits—repetitive stresses, sitting habits and nutrition also play large roles in your treatment. I’ll be happy to help you in those areas as well.
